One button changes the LCD display from Fahrenheit to Celsius, while another turns the device on and off. A rubber cap can be pried off in order to change the battery, while a plastic sheath with pocket clip lets the user keep the thermometer close at hand. To determine the accuracy of the thermometer, fill a container with chipped ice and water. Insert the probe 2 inches into the water without touching the container bottom.
